World Metrology Day celebrates the signature of the famous Metre Convention during the United Nations diplomatic conference on 20 May 1875 in Paris, which set the framework for creating The International Bureau of Weights and Measures. In 1875, the Convention was signed by 17 countries, including Russia. It is remarkable that the Russian Academy of Sciences became one of the founders of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. In 1921, the Metre Convention was amended with the result that now it has about 50 Member States.
