World Maritime Day, a UN awareness day, has been celebrated since 1978. The goal of the day is to emphasise the irreplaceable damage to seas and oceans from overfishing, water pollution and global warming. Two solutions include increased security at sea and preventing sea pollution including oil pollution. According to the UN, over the past 100 years 90% of fish such as tuna, cod and marlin have been caught. Around 21 million barrels of oil spill into seas and oceans every year.
