Slovenia Independence Day

26
December 2020
Slovenia’s Independence and Unity Day was set up to commemorate the 1990 referendum results which proclaimed independence of this central European country. This date is considered to be the official date when Slovenia left Yugoslavia and became an independent country. Until September 2005, the day was called Independence Day, but a new public holidays law added the word unity to the name, because Slovenians had shown unprecedented popular solidarity on that day.
