A popular singer and successful actor, Robeson became famous as a social activist. He was awarded an Abraham Lincoln Medal of Freedom, an award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and an American Academy award. Paul Robeson advocated pacifism as a co-founder of the World Congress of Advocates of Peace and received a prize a World Peace Prize.
