International Day of Action for Rivers

14
March 2020

When the anti-dam world movement first started in 1998 over 50 protests took place in over 20 countries including Brazil, India, Thailand, Australia, Russia, Japan and the USA. Over 10,000 people took part in rallies and letter campaigns, and river cleaning events. Over 100,000 people took part in the events the following year. Building dams on rivers is a dangerous practice affecting the global environment. It is also important to realize that a large dam leak can lead to such disastrous consequences.
