Independence Day of India

Independence Day is celebrated in India every year on the 15th of August – the anniversary of nation's independence from the British Empire. This holiday is celebrated since 1947. On this day in 1947, Indian Independence Act came into force, and the National Flag of India was raised above the walls of the Red Fort by Delhi's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru in front of the huge crowd. Thus, it marked a new stage in the history of the ancient country.
