First book is printed in Russian

“Apostle” is the first printed book written in Russian. Ivan the Terrible ordered and the Metropolitan of All Russia Makarius blessed the publication. The book was set in the printing house of Ivan Fedorov and Petr Mstislavets, who are considered to be the first Russian printers. The choice of “Apostle” as the first book of a government printing shop was not unusual: Russian clergy used it as a textbook. Jesus Christ’s disciples’ first interpretations of the Holy Scripture. The edition published by Ivan Fedorov and Petr Mstislavets became the blueprint.
