Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions

Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions is an annual day of remembrance for victims of political repression in the Soviet Union. It has been commemorated on 30 October since it was adopted by the Russian Federation Parliament, the Supreme Soviet, on 18 October 1991. The date is tied to the anniversary of a political prisoners’ hunger strike on 30 October 1974 in protest at political repression and inhumane inmate treatment in prisons and labour camps in the Soviet Union.
